Introduction and Purpose
In His Name, the Most High
Supplication or dua is one of the most important subjects and activities within Islam - and indeed within all divine monotheistic faiths.
Contrary to the prevailing opinion; supplications are not just things that are recited and that is it - not at all - they are rather both a motivator to the reciter, and a means of building a closer and more intimate relationship with the most Beloved.
These series of sessions will cover just that, with His permission and grace. While we will be starting with Dua al-Iftitah (the supplication of the opening) this is simply due to the fact that these sessions were started as the month of Ramadhan was approaching.
We will be discussing the core details of supplication, how to supplication, why to supplication, what is happening when it appears supplications are being left unheard, problems with supplicants, the nature of the supplicant, the etiquette of supplication, and much more besides.
As with our other sessions; these discussions will be in a way that many have not heart or perhaps contemplated previous; and we will be looking at supplications as a means to not only build but to nurture a tawheed-oriented society - both within ourselves, but also within our families, loved ones, friends, neighbourhoods, villages, towns and cities, countries and even the entire world.
There are many different types of supplications, from whispered prayers (munajaat), to salutations (ziyarah), to various types of recitations (zekr), there are Quranic supplications, there are supplications that we may say ourselves - from our hearts - which may or may not be in a specific language.
We will also be learning about whether supplications need to be in any specific language, or any specific setting.
All of these will be available from this index for the entire subject of dua’ - or supplication.
